You can do it! Tips to help you succeed with your online makeup artistry course
In our article Benefits of Learning to be an MUA Online, we discussed the advantages of securing your Makeup Artistry Certification through an online program as opposed to attending a traditional program. We know it can be hard to stay focused when taking a self-paced online makeup artist course, so we’ve put together some best-practice study habits here to help you succeed!
We have students from all walks of life, many of whom are parents or are already working full-time jobs or both – we realize you are incredibly busy. There is nothing more important to us than having our students succeed while they are enrolled in our program, and we will do everything in our power to facilitate this success. Today we are going to give each of you our top tips for studying makeup artistry online. It is our hope that these tips will make your learning experience here at Makeup.School even more enjoyable.
Adopt an Organization Style
One of the best tips we can give our Makeup.School students is to stay organized. Keep your coursework materials separate from everything else in your life. Don’t write your grocery list or your daily to-do list in your Makeup.School notebook. Whether you prefer to go old-school and manually write everything down or you like to go high-tech and use your laptop, find a system of keeping things organized that works best for your. Some ideas are color coding certain topics, having different notebooks for each subject being studied, or creating separate folders on your computer for each topic. Talk with your fellow Makeup.School attendees in our private Faceook group and see what works best for them. You might come up with some new ideas!
Create a Workable Schedule
Because life for many is incredibly hectic, it is necessary for you to take some time at the beginning of each week to plan out your schedule. It’s a good idea to either purchase a planner or use an online tool such as Google Calendars. Start by putting in all of your work shifts and scheduled appointments. Next, block off time each day as your study time. It is up to you to make sure that you let the people in your life know that you are not to be disturbed during your study time. You will also need to coordinate times to work with your models in order to get your practice done and take your photos for your portfolio. Once all of the pieces are in place you are ready to get on with your week knowing you have set yourself up for success.
Write Down Your Goals…Then Stick to Them
Sometimes things don’t seem real until you see them in writing. If becoming a makeup artist has been a dream of yours for some time and up until now you have found a million and one reasons why you couldn’t pursue it, then this tip is written especially for you. Take a moment and write down your goals for this program. What you do you hope to gain from your Makeup.School experience? Where do you see yourself in the next year…or the next 5 years? What type of makeup artistry would you like to focus on? Answering these questions in writing gives you something to refer back to when things may become difficult. There may be times when balancing your work life and personal life with studying becomes a bit overwhelming. You may even want to quit. When you’re at your breaking point, pull out this paper as a reminder of why you are in this amazing program to begin with. You are incredibly talented and you have dreams to pursue. When you want to quit, remember why you started in the first place.
Make Child-Care Arrangements
If you have children, you know how difficult it can be to even eat a hot meal much less get any focused studying done. It’s a good idea to make child-care arrangements for your studying time. You can invite a teenage neighbor over to play with and look after your kids while you study. You’ll still be home in case of emergencies, but you will be able to study in a quiet space and know that you can focus and not be interrupted. This is one of the best investments you can make for yourself and your new career.
