Makeup.School Review: Andrea DeMaio – Idaho Springs, Colorado
We are always so inspired from our students around the world! No matter where they are from, we absolutely love hearing feedback about their experience with us. Like Dippalli from Birmingham, Andrea has a lot to share. She is a perfect example that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to!
Location: Idaho Springs, Colorado
Are you a graduate or current student of Makeup.School?
I am a current student of Makeup.School. I passed the written exam and am on my way to getting my certificate!
What inspired you to become a makeup artist?
I absolutely love performing arts. I wanted to become a Broadway star and then I started becoming interested in theatrical makeup. I also love to paint and draw. I think I found that makeup was a great avenue to have all of my interests meet!
It really appealed to me that this program was at my own pace. I started the program in high school and then life became really crazy and it came to a pause. I got married and now I can finish the program and complete my goal. Without the online avenue and the flexibility, I don’t think I would have had the encouragement to pursue my makeup artistry career.
What do you think of the program?
I love the practicality of the program. It will be useful no matter the new trends that come and go!
What is your favorite aspect of the program?
I love the book that the program uses. I refer to it often when people ask me for advice.
Did you purchase one of our Makeup Kits? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
I did! I love it. It not only is fun to use but it makes me appear very professional and organized.
How prepared do you feel you will be to begin your career as a professional makeup artist once you complete the Makeup.School program?
I feel very prepared to begin my professional career. I have the confidence and the tools thanks to this program.
What has been your favorite makeup job so far?
So far, my favorite job has been doing the makeup for my local drama clubs production of Cinderella. Creating the Fairy Godmother on a kid was so fun and exciting.
What are your future plans? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
In 5 years I hope to be able support myself solely with my makeup career if I wanted to. I see myself with a very diverse portfolio and a loyal client base. In 10 years I see myself doing a lot more traveling for my makeup career. I want to see the world and do makeup on a variety of faces.
Besides makeup, tell us what else interests you!
I love music and dancing! I used to be a jazz and tap dancer. I also love to paint, draw, and create art with a wood burner.
What makeup product is your absolute MUST HAVE?
I cannot live without beautiful brows. Right now I am really liking the E.L.F. Brow kit. Very bold AND inexpensive.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who was just starting Makeup.School?
Keep practicing and find what styles you like best. I think every makeup artist will have a look that defines their artistic signature.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is just starting their Makeup Artistry career?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Take chances and be confident.
