Shape Your Eyebrows Guide

The angles of the face are highlighted by the eyebrows. Narrow the facial structure, broaden it or lift the eyes by working on the eyebrows. Frame the eyes perfectly and tone down or underline eye makeup with the right eyebrow shape. Perfectly shaped eyebrows bring balance to the face and add symmetry to all of its features.

The Golden Ratio

The golden ratio is a number that depicts the perfect proportion that is most pleasing to the human eye. Anastasia Soare, beauty ‘innovator,’ was perhaps the first person to apply this number to the techniques of eyebrow shaping. Anastasia has created the perfect look for innumerable celebrities and has transformed asymmetrical and sparse eyebrows into the most stunningly attractive facial features.

Anastasia’s trademarked Golden Ratio Technique brings about balance in the face using eyebrows as the starting point. Use this ratio to determine the shape that will set off facial features in the best possible way. This is how to do it:

  • A: Draw an imaginary line from the outside corner of the nose upward toward the inside corner of the eye. The eyebrow should end where it meets this line.
  • B: Draw another imaginary line from the tip of the nose crossing the pupil of the eye diagonally. The point where this line cuts the eyebrow is the perfect position for the arch.
  • C: Draw an imaginary line from the bottom of the nose to the outer corner of the eye and beyond. This is where the eyebrow should end.

Eyebrow Tips & Tricks

Now that you know exactly how the perfect eyebrows for your face should look, start shaping the brows to match this ideal. Keep in mind that the eyebrow should start directly above the eye’s inner corner.

The initial three quarters of the brow should gradually move upward to meet the natural arch and peak. The last quarter turns down, tapering off at the very end. There is an option of curving the line from the peak to the end or making it a straight line. Either option makes for a very different look so experiment with them both for a while before you understand exactly how they look.

  • Keep in mind these points when shaping the eyebrows:
  • Tweeze the brows right after a shower or bath. Hair is pliable at this time and pores are open making it easy to pluck the brows painlessly.
  • Avoid over tweezing because it may result in ‘too thin’ eyebrows.
  • Avoid threading at home because there is so little control over the shape achieved. Allow a professional to do the threading.
  • Waxing is an effective way to get the desired eyebrow shape although tweezing is a quick and easy solution for a light, instant clean up. Take care when waxing not to remove more brow than intended.
  • Limit plucking the brows to the area between the brow and the brow bone. Tweezing above this line may result in an uneven shape.
  • Plucking a few hairs farther from the innermost corner of the eye makes the eye appear larger.

Tips for Different Face Shapes

A round face is the perfect canvas for a fuller, thicker brow. A thin brow makes the face look plumper. An arched eyebrow gives a square face the lift it needs to appear more oval. Keep the brow thinner to allow the arch to get maximum attention here. Medium arches work best with oval faces. Keep to the brow’s natural shape as much as possible. For mature women, brows tend to droop at the ends due to sagging skin. For such brows, Anastasia Soare recommends lifting the brows to give the eyes a more open and wider appearance. Make the brow shorter and the arch straighter to achieve this effect.

Step 1: Determine where the eyebrows should start:

Take your spatula and place it right next to the outside corner of the nose, taking it upward to the inside corner of the eyes. Make a dot here to know where to shape.

Step 2: Determine where the arch should be:

Place the spatula’s one side onto the tip of the nose and take it diagonally through the pupil of the eye. Make a dot just above the area where the arch should be.

Step 3: Determine where the eyebrow should end:

Place the spatula on the outside corner of the nose and take it straight to the outside corner of the eye. Make a dot to know where to stop plucking.

Step 4: Brush eyebrows neatly in an upward movement to see and pluck any unwanted hair.

Step 5: Finally, start plucking the hair outside the marked lines until finished.

Great job!
